Transformation of AI
Twelve months back if we were discussing the penetration of AI in insurance ecosystem globally, we would have stopped ourselves with some chatbots. However, things have changed since then….
• Allianz put seven AI agents on food-spoilage claims and cut settlement from days to hours. Built in under a hundred days. Not a pilot — production. Source: https://www.insurebench.com/insurers/allianz & https://aibuzz.blog/ai-in-insurance/
• Manulife told investors AI delivered roughly CA$300 million of realised value last year, on its way to a projected billion. Intact put its number near CA$200 million annually. After a decade of decks, the value finally reached a balance sheet. Source: Intact ~CA$200M annual AI benefits — Insurance Business Magazine, June 2026
• In February, Insurify put an insurance app inside ChatGPT — the first one OpenAI approved. Broker stocks prices noticed it the same day. The assistant is no longer a feature of distribution. It is distribution. And at home, Bima Sugam could be at the cusp of creating something very similar to UPI in payment. While global insurers built agents, India built rails.
What is most interesting is that each of these innovations makes insurance faster to process, not just easier to sell or service.
- Claims can be settled in hours instead of days.
- Policies can be issued in minutes.
- Fraud can be flagged in seconds.
But if this were handed to a story or screenplay writer from the Indian film industry, this is where the villain would enter. The antagonist would be the entities constantly trying to break the system. They, too, are using AI to sharpen their skills, build better tools, and stay one step ahead of insurers.
In that sense, AI is becoming the insurance industry’s new “Centre of Excellence”: a capability that must constantly look ahead, anticipate emerging threats, and keep the organisation ahead of both customer expectations and adversarial innovation.
